Backfill Systems

HYDRAULIC MODEL AND FLOW ASSESSMENT

A hydraulic gradient model, which can be used to compute the hydraulic gradient of paste backfill transported by a pipeline system in a mine, can be constructed based on the rheological model derivation and numerical simulation. NEMCCO will help you analyze and benchmark output parameters such as available head, pressure loss per distance, pressures in every point of the pipe, the pipeline profile vs the hydraulic grade line (HGL), the potential for slack flow, the potential for air hammering, etc. These output results will help mine fill technical personnel design and optimize backfilling of underground excavations and/or efficient surface disposal.

UDS and 3D RETICULATION SYSTEM

The design of an Underground Distribution System (UDS) can be a challenge to get a smooth running backfill operation with minimal unplanned interruptions and with the highest safety standards. In fact, several design parameters affect backfill operation KPIs such as % utilization, % operation, average stope turnover and number of incidents. Contact us to discuss how NEMCCO could increase your productivity and improve your safety practices.

BACKFILL BARRICADE DESIGN AND PLACEMENT

A number of reported barricade failures have shown that barricade stability is critical for ensuring successful and safe underground backfilling. NEMCCO will assist you in designing and building a suitable fill fence that takes into account your specific site conditions.

RECIPE IMPROVEMENT

Knowing the mine fill components is key to understanding the behavior and optimizing the recipe for a better and lower-cost backfill operation.

GENERAL OR DETAILED AUDITS

Mining operations can benefit from system audits and performance reviews, which can identify areas of deficiency or improvements through the adoption of best practice. Such improvements might be to examine alternative binders, new pour practices, and/or upgrades to certain equipment. These improvements could realize mid-term and long-term cost savings and improve reliability and safety.

NEMCCO also helps mining operations carry out an overall or specific gap analysis and proposes strategies to close the gap and improve processes and achieve excellence
